Jake
Burton
Jake
Burton began drumming “formally” at the age of 7,
although he had drum kits as early as age
3. He studied with his uncle for about a year, and then
played to records, tapes, and the radio.
Jake played in school band from 10 until he was 14. At 16,
he began studying with Dave Kroyer at a local music shop, creating
a relationship that ignited the love for music that Jake still
has today. He studied with Kroyer for two years before moving
on to college.
At St. Louis University, Jake studied with Thomas Stubbs of
the Saint Louis Symphony. His areas of study included tympani,
snare drum, bass drum, hand drumming, and other types of symphonic
percussion. Jake has also self-studied out of many drumming
books and gives credit to this as another major contribution
to his development.
Jake is currently teaching drums at Saint Louis Community College
and at Holzum Music. He does session work for various music
studios in the metropolitan Saint Louis area.
In college, Jake is currently studying Biomedical Engineering
at Saint Louis University, and is scheduled to graduate May
2003. (Keep your fingers crossed).
